Welcome to our website, The 34th Reigate (Meadvale). (Spence 1977-2014)
The 34th Reigate (Meadvale) Scout group was started in February 1930 as the 34th Reigate (St John's boys School). In December 1935 the group moved to Meadvale and became the 34th Reigate (Meadvale).The original Meadvale group was started in 1915 as the 16th Reigate (Meadvale). The Group started Cubs in 1935 and Beavers in 1987. During the years the Group had Senior Scouts and Rover Scouts. In January 2003 the Explorer Unit was started. The Group currently still has Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers. The Group celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2005.In 2010 the Group celebrated 80 years with a special camp in September 2010.
Spence started as a Scout in 1977, became a Scout assistant in 1983 at the age of 16. At 18 he became Assistant Scout leader with a warrant and took over as Scout leader at 21. He then started and ran the Explorer unit for 12 years. A total of 37 years.In that time he was also a assistant Beaver Leader with the Group and Group Scout Leader three times.
